Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz is a premium wine produced exclusively from Tinta Roriz grapes and that is only bottled in those years marked by exceptional quality and excellence.

Over the years, Quinta do Crasto has identified the three vineyard plots that are ideal for this variety with three solar exposures – east, southeast and northwest. They are at similar altitudes and have soils that, although poor at the surface, have a layer of clay at a metre and a half in depth that retains the winter rains and thus provides the water conditions necessary for the excellent performance of the vine.

Tinta Roriz is a challenging grape variety from an oenological point of view. High in tannins, its biggest challenge is the phenolic maturation of the grapes. In order to achieve the desired point of tannin maturation, these grapes require the ideal terroir in terms of soil, altitude and sun exposure, with favourable climatic conditions throughout the year. It may then be necessary to harvest each plot selectively and, then undertake careful, precision winemaking in the cellar in order to safeguard the full potential that comes from the vines and so as to obtain the highest quality product.

In those years when climatic conditions prevent the appropriate maturation of Tinta Roriz, the standards of excellence set by the Quinta do Crasto Oenology team cannot be met, and this single varietal is not produced. Happily, the last nine years have permitted the vineyard to consistently bottle Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz. Aged solely in new French oak barrels, Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz has only been produced in the years 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz has a lively and concentrated colour. On the nose, it presents an intense aroma of ripe fruit with good woody notes. It has great presence in the mouth, soft and round, with everything in perfect balance. It has a long and prolonged finish. The Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz 2017 presents deep ruby in colour. Outstanding aroma complexity on the nose, with fresh notes of gum cistus in perfect harmony with delicate hints of spice and wild berries. The palate starts in a captivating way, immediately delivering excellent volume and a solid structure, along with tannins of great personality that are well integrated with elegant flavours of wild fruit. The finish is balanced and persistent. This is a wine that conveys the essence of Tinta Roriz.

The Quinta do Crasto single varietals are premium wines. Produced exclusively with fruit of the respective variety, they are only bottled in those years of such exceptional quality that the grape showcases all its true potential and achieves the maximum expression of the identity of its variety.
